Using Astrocartography for Career Success

Using Astrocartography world map for Career Success

What if success in your career was influenced by more than just switching jobs? Astrocartography, aka relocation astrology, gives clues into areas of the world where specific themes may take priority in your story. A popular question people ask is: where is the best city for career success?

To discover what specific areas may help you thrive in your work, an astrocartographer will review your unique astrocartography map to see where you can find opportunities that align with your career goals and personal growth.

What is Astrocartography?

Astrocartography, developed by astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s, is a method that maps the positions of the planets at the time of your birth across the globe. This technique combines traditional astrological practices with geographical mapping to reveal how different locations might affect your life.

On an astrocartography map, you’ll see lines representing the Sun, Moon, and planets such as Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Each line represents a location where a particular planet was angular at the time of your birth, which means it was rising, setting, at the Midheaven, or at the Imum Coeli (the lowest point in the sky).

How to Read an Astrocartography Map for Career Success

Before diving into career advice, it’s crucial to understand the basics of reading an astrocartography map. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Obtain Your Astrocartography Map

If you want to try the DIY route, you can generate a personalized map using online astrocartography services or software. For beginners, astro.com is a great tool where you can choose “Local Travel Space” as your chart option to see your Astrocartography Map. Fair warning, you will need your time of birth for this to work accurately! Without the exact time of birth (along with birth date and birth city), the lines on the astrocartography map will not be accurate either.

Identify the Planetary Lines

Once you have your astrocartography map, you can start your astrocartography for career success journey. Each line on the map corresponds to a specific planet in your birth chart. Along with each planet, you’ll notice abbreviations describing the four main angles in the birth chart as well.

The Four Angles in an Astrocartography Map

Each planetary line on your map will indicate one of four angles where the planet was at the time of your birth:

  • Ascendant (AC): The planet was rising on the eastern horizon. Represents who you’re rising into.

  • Descendant (DC): The planet was setting on the western horizon. Represents whose energies compliments you most.

  • Midheaven (MC): The planet was at its highest point in the sky. Represents career direction.

  • Imum Coeli (IC): The planet was at its lowest point. Represents energies in the home.

Guided by the Planets in Astrology

There will be lots of different astrocartography line meanings in your astrocartography map, each with a planet representing a theme of your life. Here’s a brief look at the main themes of each birth chart planet:

  • Sun: Represents vitality, identity, and career.

  • Moon: Relates to emotional needs and nurturing.

  • Mercury: All about communication and analysis.

  • Venus: Connection to love, beauty, and harmony.

  • Mars: Focus on action, ambition, and proactivity.

  • Jupiter: Brings expansion, growth, and new opportunities.

  • Saturn: Prioritizes discipline, structure, and challenges.

  • Uranus: Encourages individuality, innovation and change.

  • Neptune: Inspires dreams and spiritual connection.

  • Pluto: Transforms and empowers.

Career Themes of Planetary Lines

When interpreting an astrocartography map for career advice, each planet will affect your career themes in that location differently. It’s important to look at your birth chart as well to see what house the planet resides in, as those areas of life will be connected too.

Here's how each planet can affect your career prospects:

Sun Lines

Ascendant (AC): Boosts visibility and leadership qualities. Living or working in the Sun AC area can enhance your confidence and help you make a strong impact in your field.

Midheaven (MC): Ideal for career advancement and recognition. The Sun MC location can propel you toward positions of authority and success.

Moon Lines

Ascendant (AC): Fosters emotional intelligence and adaptability. The Moon AC line will likely bring up subconscious emotions that could be blocking you from feeling fully aligned with your work, or people in your life.

Midheaven (MC): Encourages a nurturing work environment. The Moon MC line will likely prioritize building emotional bonds with those you work with, and help you understand what career makes you feel most fulfilled.

Mercury Lines

Ascendant (AC): Enhances communication skills and intellectual pursuits. The Mercury AC line is ideal for writers, teachers, or any profession involving negotiation or analysis.

Midheaven (MC): The Mercury MC career line supports roles that require quick thinking and adaptability. You may find yourself learning a lot on the job, or having illuminating conversations that expand your mind.

Venus Lines

Ascendant (AC): Attracts opportunities in artistic and creative fields. Living or working at a Venus AC line can inspire collaboration and harmony. Even so, this could also be a place that has you feeling the depth of any self-worth wounds.

Midheaven (MC): The Venus MC lines are wonderful for careers in fashion, design, or the arts. This line enhances your ability to create beauty and connect with others. Be sure to focus on receiving more than forcing abundance, as Venus’s energy is full of blessings for those who have open arms.

Mars Lines

Ascendant (AC): Boosts energy, drive, and competitiveness. A Mars AC line location could push you to do major healing work to dissolve any blocks from you taking action on your career goals.

Midheaven (MC): Encourages leadership and ambition. The Mars MC line is beneficial for roles that require assertiveness and decisive action. Even so, be careful of becoming too aggressive in your pursuit for success. Consistent success is built with long-term strategy in mind.

Jupiter Lines

Ascendant (AC): Expands opportunities and luck. The Jupiter AC line location is favorable for those who want to grow and become their higher selves, as they pursue changes in career. You will need to let go of old habits and limiting mindsets so you can step into more elevated professional roles.

Midheaven (MC): The Jupiter MC line offers abundance through pursuing expanded roles in your career. In this location, you may meet people who mentor you, or connect with you the right person at the right time. Luck is on your side!

Saturn Lines

Ascendant (AC): Imposes discipline and structure. A commitment to deeper healing of your subconscious blocks will be necessary to see rewards in your career at a Saturn AC line.

Midheaven (MC): Responsibility and hard work go hand in hand when you arrive at a Saturn MC location. There could be a lot more challenges that need to be overcome to see success, but ultimately there could be professional rewards for your determination.

Uranus Lines

Ascendant (AC): Inspires innovation and originality. Unexpected events could shape your understanding of self and how you show up as authentically as possible at a Uranus AC location.

Midheaven (MC): The Uranus MC line will most prominently support roles that require unconventional thinking and entrepreneurship. Frequency and vibration alignment is key. You can become your most authentic self through your work in this location.

Neptune Lines

Ascendant (AC): Enhances creativity and intuition. The Neptune AC location could inspire you to do more spiritual healing work to align with faith and surrender to a greater universal force.

Midheaven (MC): A Neptune MC line is favorable for artistic, spiritual, or healing professions, but overall should help you develop a deeper alignment with your vision of success. Be careful of doubts and negativity that prevents you from taking aligned action in your career.

Pluto Lines

Ascendant (AC): Empowers transformation and resilience. A Pluto AC line is a location that could turn your life upside down, but for the overall benefit of inner growth.

Midheaven (MC): The Pluto MC line location could be a place that truly revolutionizes your career and life. With such dramatic changes and challenges, you will likely develop resilience and strength through any trials experienced here.

Tips for Changing Cities to Change Your Career

Now that we understand the general meanings of these main astrocartography career lines, how do we narrow down the options? When using astrocartography for career advice, consider the following practical steps:

Identify Potential Locations

Make a list of some cities or regions your intuition has been picking up on, and look at your astrocartography chart to identify any lines that intersect or run through those locations. If you find one (or more), consider the explanations above to dissect the potential of how those planetary influences and angles could benefit your career.

Evaluate the Influence

Reflect on how the planetary influences align with your career goals. Do you want to climb up the corporate ladder? If you’re seeking a leadership role, focus on Sun or Mars lines at the Midheaven. Or maybe, you want to experience more creativity in your work… if so, Venus MC lines could provide more artistic flow!

Research the Location

Now that you’ve narrowed down a location, investigate the job market, industry presence, and lifestyle in the area. Astrocartography lines can be expressed in a broad variety of ways, so make sure the details align with your professional and personal needs.

Plan Visits

If possible, visit your ACG location picks for moving careers to get a feel for the environment and opportunities. Pay attention to how you feel and any synchronicities that may occur, but also don’t let doubt or self-sabotage get in your way.

When I was planning to move from Chicago to Phoenix, I visited Phoenix to see if I actually liked the area. At first, I wasn’t overjoyed, but it did feel steady, calm, warm and inviting.

The issue wasn’t that Phoenix wasn’t amazing for my new chapter, but that I was used to a completely different way of being in the midwest. After some time, Phoenix grew on me and I fell in love with the change of environment.

Consult an Astrologer

Even though this guide is a fantastic start to understanding how astrocartography can be used for career success, there are still many layers a professional astrologer will look at to see if a location is a good fit for your intentions.

For a deeper understanding, consider consulting a professional astrologer, like myself, who specializes not only in astrocartography, but also psychological astrology.

Many times, you will read about how an astrocartography line is supposed to manifest a certain outcome, however it is still very possible for someone to have the opposite experience.

This can be explained through the cosmic mirror of vibration, the law of attraction and how what we experience mirrors the energy we are in. If we are not in alignment, it is very possible to still struggle in places that have great potential for abundance.

In our astrocartography chart reading, I will look at both your birth chart and astrocartography chart to see what areas of life will be most impacted in certain locations, and more importantly, how you can start to align your energy for better success.
